Surviving and Thriving in the New Hospice Envronment

Where: Hospice of Rutherford County in Forest City, NC

Deborah Dailey, MBA, has been a leader of hospice operations for more than 30 years.  She has served as President/CEO of five hospice organizations in four states.  She was responsible for the complete start-up of three of these programs which included state licensure, Medicare certification, design of service delivery systems, hiring of staff and developing and implementing financial and IT systems.  She also served as Vice President of Operations for the Central Region of Vista Care Inc., which included overall responsibility for the day to day operations of 19 sites located in four states.

Objectives

  • Discuss 3 leadership skills that are necessary to become an effective leader.
  • Explain the role that critical thinking and emotional intelligence play in achieving success.
  • Describe change management and the concept that change is life's only constant.

    Upstate AHEC is dedicated to providing a comprehensive selection of continuing education offerings for health care providers. Annually, Upstate AHEC provides more than 250 continuing education programs delivered throughout its eleven county service area and designed to meet the education and training needs of the region's health care workforce. AHEC programs assist health practitioners in expanding their knowledge, increasing their competency, and in maintaining professional licensure and certification.

    DHHS Offers Free Provider Workshops

    DHHS regularly offers free workshops for their providers. Currently, there are free workshops offered by the SCDHHS which include Comprehensive Web Tool and Overview of Third Party Liability.

    Health Literacy for Public Health Professionals Online Training

    To help public health professionals respond to the problem of limited health literacy, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have launched a free "Health Literacy for Public Health Professionals Online Training" program. The purpose of this training is to educate public health professionals about limited health literacy and their role in addressing it in a public health context.

    This is a web-based course and can be accessed 24/7 by any computer with Internet access. It takes 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. Trainees can earn a variety of continuing education credits.
